You don't need to be present to win these prizes, just fill out an entry form at the information desk inside the show. A drawing from these raffle tickets will be held at the end of the show and the winners will be notified. The high value of the prizes offered makes raffle tickets an excellent bargain - and you can buy as many tickets as you like!
All paid attendees receive a Door Prize Ticket on entry to the show. To be eligible to win door prizes, complete the Door Prize Ticket and hand it in at the Information Desk just inside the entrance to the show. There will be at least one door prize drawing made every hour throughout the show. Prize winners will be announced over a PA system as names are drawn throughout the show. There's no charge for your first entry, but you must be present to win and claim a door prize when ticket numbers are announced. Sorry, only one door prize ticket available per paid show entry.
When we learned of Mineral Wines we were intrigued by an obvious connection to a passion shared by most of our members - the wonder of nature's display of the elements as expressed in the mineral world through unique crystal formations and combinations. When we tasted Mineral Wines we were thrilled to discover a delightful expression of such passion as translated through their very fine cuvees honoring the 'rare and beautiful' - in both wine and minerals. So pairing with Mineral Wines for our 59th Annual Gem & Mineral Show seems a "natural."
Throughout the show, starting at noon on Saturday and Sunday, Mineral Wines will be offering tastings of their fine wines. It's an exciting new way to enjoy the exhibits, activities and vendors... sample the wines and browse the show! Some of the proceeds from the wine tastings will bennefit our Society. See below for information about some wonderful prizes that will be provided by Mineral Wines.
On Saturday evening, August 24th, immediately following the show at 6:00 pm, join us for a special wine tasting and fundraising event in the exhibits gallery. The evening will feature a live auction of fine minerals, wine tasting and light refreshments. Adult admission is only $20.00 per person, which includes four wine samplings and one full glass. Browse the exhibits, enjoy the wine and acquire some rare and exciting specimens. Also included in the adult admission is a chance at a great door prize specifically for this event: a weekend getaway at Mineral Wines Winery in historic Angels Camp in the California Gold Country!
Mineral Wines winemaker Bret Keller describes the door prize for the Saturday Evening Wine Tasting Event:
"Two nights stay at our B & B accommodations dubbed "The Haven". On arrival, a wine tasting and tour of the grounds, and for your final night (usually Saturday) - a 'winemakers dinner' with four courses paired to the four wines. This is kind of a 'join the family' event, where I prepare the meal (Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I am a cook...). The stay is by appointment (wanna make sure we are here) and at least two weeks advance notice is required. It will expire end of May 2014. While here, our guests can enjoy the town of Murphys, and we will be able to answer all their questions about the cool things to do here. Continental breakfast is provided both mornings they are here. The accommodations are for two, only."
The Mineral Wines Collection is a collection of four bottles in a lovely wooden box, etched with the images of the fine minerals depicted in the artwork that inspires Mineral Wines' unique labels. This valuable prize is donated by Mineral Wines and will be awarded as a show raffle prize at the end of the show on Sunday. Tickets for this and many other valuable prizes can be purchased at the information booth inside the exhibit hall during the show. All the prizes for this raffle are quite valuable and will be displayed for your viewing during the show. You do not need to be present to win. Ask about the rules and how these prizes are awarded at the information desk.
Dozens of exhibitors will display their collections of rocks, gems, minerals and crystals, jewelry and lapidary work. This year's theme "Heavy Metal" promises to provide many exhibits with spectacular and valuable metalic mineral specimens and displays. Some exhibits will illustrate activities of members and skilles learned in SFGMS classes.
There will be also dozens of rock, gem and jewelry vendors offering everything from rough lapidary and gem materials, to fine specimens, to beautiful and unique jewelry that you'll never find at the mall. Many offer books and tools for those wanting to learn about lapidary arts and jewelry-making. Don't miss this once-a-year chance to obtain your hearts desire at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco!
There will be live demonstrations in lapidary arts and jewelry fabricating techniques, and free lectures with renowned experts on many topics of interest in the gem and mineral world!

Bring in those unidentified rocks and minerals! We will have a booth with rock and gem "experts." courtesy of The Bay Area Minerologists (BAM) to identify those mystery rocks and minerals that have kept you awake endless nights!
